Things to ask
Make plans (with your account connected)
- Post pickleball at the park courts Saturday at 9, on if four of us are in.
- Ask my running group which morning works next week.
- I'm in for the board game night on Friday.
- Make a plan for trivia Thursday, just for the friends I send the link to.
- What plans do I have this week, and what needs an answer?
- What's the latest in the chat for Saturday's pickleball? Tell them I'm running ten minutes late.
- Move my trivia plan to 7:30 and open two spots for people nearby.
- Which time won in my running group's feeler? Make the plan.
- Is there a board game group near me? Ask to join it.
Find what's on
- What's on in Old Fourth Ward this weekend?
- Where can I play pickleball near Decatur, and when is it busy?
- Is there trivia at a bar in Midtown on Thursday?
It works anywhere in the US. Events come from venues and organizers that FolkAround has verified, so in a town where none list events yet, it tells you where people go for what you asked about instead.
Add it to your assistant
FolkAround's address for assistants is:
https://folkaround.app/mcp
- Claude
- In Claude's settings, open Connectors, find FolkAround in the directory and choose Connect. You can also add it as a custom connector with the address above.
- ChatGPT
- Open Plugins from the sidebar or in Settings, find FolkAround and choose Connect. Then mention FolkAround in a chat, or pick it from + and More.
- Gemini
- In Gemini on the web, open Settings, then Connected apps, choose Add a custom app and paste the address above. Gemini registers itself and asks you to connect; once added on the web, it works in the Gemini apps on your phone too. For now custom apps are for Gemini Spark, in the US, in English, 18 and over.
You don't need an account to ask about events, places and plans near you.
Connecting your account
When you ask about your own plans, the assistant sends you to FolkAround's own page to sign in, or to make an account. There you see what it's asking for and say yes or no. You need to be 18 or older to connect an assistant.
Once connected, it can:
- Show your plans, what needs you (a plan to answer, a group asking when works), last week's plans, the feelers you posted, and your groups.
- Tell you about one of them, or one a friend sent you a link to: when and where, who's hosting, how many are in, and any messages you haven't read.
- Find plans you could join, and groups near you that anyone can find.
- Say you're in, interested or can't make it, to a plan, a feeler or an event's date, with a note if you like.
- Post a plan or a feeler: for people nearby, for one of your groups (with open spots for people nearby, or kept off the map), or invite-only with a link you send.
- Change a plan you host (its time, note, limit or open spots), decide what to do when it comes up short, or cancel it.
- Show a feeler's answers as counts, make the plan from them, remind whoever hasn't answered, close it or call it off.
- Read the chat of a plan you host or are in, and post a message in it.
- Join or leave a group, share a link to a plan, a feeler or a group, and tell FolkAround what happens at a place.
- Tell you what's new in your Updates, and show or change your interests, home area and alerts, when you ask it to.
Before it answers, posts, changes or cancels anything, it shows you exactly what will happen and waits for you to say yes. Other people see what you do just as if you'd done it in the app. Inviting particular people from your groups, and letting people into a group you own, stay in the app.
What it shares
Without your account, an assistant sees only what FolkAround's public pages show: official events, public places, and counts of plans. Never a plan itself, a group, a home or anyone's name.
With your account connected, it sees what you ask for: your plans, your groups and plans you could join. A plan comes with its host's name and how many are in, never who else is in it or who hasn't answered. For that, it gives you the plan's link to open in the app. When you ask, it reads the chat of a plan you host or are in, with who wrote each message, as the app shows it to you; some messages may be left out, and the chat in the app has them all. Your Updates come as what happened and what about, never who did it. What the assistant reads goes to the company that makes it, under that company's own privacy policy. The privacy policy has the details.
Disconnecting
In FolkAround, open Me, then Connected apps, and disconnect it. That ends its access at once. Removing FolkAround in your assistant's settings stops it asking, and ends its access too when the assistant tells FolkAround so. A connection you don't use for 180 days ends by itself, and deleting your account ends them all.
